Yet there the likeness ended. The captain had left Norvos and its bearded priests, but Ser Arys Oakheart still served the Iron Throne.

And so Ned had come striding into the council chambers, bonetired and dressed in borrowed clothing, to find four members of the small council waiting for him.

The chamber was richly furnished. Myrish carpets covered the floor instead of rushes, and in one corner a hundred fabulous beasts cavorted in bright paints on a carved screen from the Summer Isles. The walls were hung with tapestries from Norvos and Qohor and Lys, and a pair of Valyrian sphinxes flanked the door, eyes of polished garnet smoldering in black marble faces.

The councillor Ned liked least, the eunuch Varys, accosted him the moment he entered. "Lord Stark, I was grievous sad to hear about your troubles on the kingsroad. We have all been visiting the sept to light candles for Prince Joffrey. I pray for his recovery." His hand left powder stains on Ned's sleeve, and he smelled as foul and sweet as flowers on a grave.

Y así fue cómo llegó Ned a la cámara del Consejo, muerto de cansancio y vestido con ropas prestadas. Cuatro consejeros aguardaban su llegada.

La cámara tenía una decoración suntuosa. El suelo estaba cubierto de alfombras de Myr, en vez de esteras, y en un rincón había un biombo tallado, procedente de las Islas del Verano, en el que aparecían un centenar de bestias fabulosas pintadas en colores brillantes. De las paredes colgaban tapices de Norvos, Qohor y Lys, y un par de esfinges valyrianas flanqueaban la puerta, con ojos de granates tallados que brillaban en las cabezas de mármol negro.

—Lord Stark, me entristecieron mucho las noticias de los problemas que surgieron durante el viaje. Todos hemos visitado el sept y encendido velas por el príncipe Joffrey. The name gave Sam a jolt. “The sphinx is the riddle, not the riddler,” he blurted. “Do you know what that means?”

“Vengeance.” His voice was soft, as if he were afraid that someone might be listening. “Justice.” Prince Doran pressed the onyx dragon into her palm with his swollen, gouty fingers, and whispered, “Fire and blood.”

Tal vez debí ponerlo en el blog de frases, pero es muy HyF. Entré a Asshai.com, y como siempre, allí nos da la bienvenida una frase memorable:

-Quiero que comprendas esto, Bran: el hombre que confía en los hechizos, se bate en duelo con una espada de cristal.

Suena sabio, sí, pero después de ver a "slayer" Samwell con su daga de vidriagón, yo no descartaría ni la de acero, valiryo o westerosi, ni las de cristal.

Mientras le atacaba un Otro, redescubrió las facultades de la obsidiana o vidriagón, que consiste en matar a los Otros, ya que vidriagón significa fuego helado y los otros son criaturas de hielo.

Obsidiana en Wikipedia

Dragonglass is volcanic glass, or obsidian. Children of the forest make weapons out of dragonglass, including daggers and arrowheads. Dragonglass weapons are one of the few weaknesses of the Others. An Other that is pierced by an obsidian blade dies almost instantaneously. The Valyrians also made use of Obsidian to make their glass candles.

The War for the Dawn

Approximately eight thousand years before Aegon's Landing, in the midst of a great winter that lasted for years, a terrible darkness fell across Westeros and the east. The Long Night lasted a generation and laid waste to much of the world through famine and terror. In the midst of this darkness a race of apparent demons emerged from the uttermost north, wielding razor-thin swords of ice and raising the dead to fight the living. The Children of the Forest and their allies, the First Men, fought valiantly against them, but were driven southwards by their advance. The 'Others', as these demons were called, were eventually checked when it was discovered that weapons made ofdragonglass ( obsidian) could kill them. A great hero, who in the eastern tradition is known as Azor Ahai, led the war against the Others wielding his sword of fire, Lightbringer. Eventually the Others were driven back into the Lands of Always Winter. Brandon Stark, known as Bran the Builder, raised a great Wall of ice, gravel and magic, stretching one hundred leagues from the Gorge to the Shivering Sea to prevent the Others coming again. Brandon Stark was declared the First King in the North. The fortress of Winterfell (and possibly Storm's End in the south) was built at this time, and the Night's Watch founded to maintain a watch on the Wall. A later prophecy claimed that the Others would return and Azor Ahai, the Prince that was Promised, would be reborn to lead the fight.

Frases de Jaime Lannister

Releyendo "A Feast for Crows" me reí mucho con las frases de Jaime. Las cosas que piensa y las cosas que dice. "Siempre es bueno dar consejos, pero darlos buenos es fatal." Frase de Oscar Wilde. Así recordé la frase de "Tormenta de Espadas"

«Fue esa capa blanca la que me mancilló, y no al revés.»

Jaime se acurrucó bajo la capa, con la esperanza de ver a Cersei en sueños.
Pero cuando cerró los ojos, al que vio fue a Aerys Targaryen, que paseaba en solitario por el salón del trono mientras se miraba las manos arañadas y sangrantes. El idiota se cortaba constantemente con los filos y pinchos del Trono de Hierro. Jaime había entrado sigilosamente por la puerta del rey; llevaba la armadura dorada puesta y la espada empuñada.
«La armadura dorada, no la blanca, pero nadie se acuerda nunca de eso. Ojalá me hubiera quitado también la capa de mierda.»
Cuando Aerys vio sangre en la espada, preguntó si se trataba de la de Lord Tywin.
—Quiero muerto a ese traidor. Quiero su cabeza, tráeme su cabeza o arderás con los otros. Con todos los traidores. ¡Rossart dice que están dentro de las murallas! Va a darles una cálida bienvenida. ¿De quién es la sangre? ¿De quién?

TdE, cap 11, Jaime II

"Quizá no sea tan estúpida al fin y al cabo" TdE, cap 1, Jaime, hablando de Catelyn Tully.
En esto no coincido tanto con Jaime, es estúpida de principio a fin. Tal vez le concedo "no tan estúpida" pero estúpida es.
La causa de la causa es la causa del mal causado.

Al principio iba a pones sólo estas dos frases:
«Fue esa capa blanca la que me mancilló, y no al revés.»
«La armadura dorada, no la blanca, pero nadie se acuerda nunca de eso. Ojalá me hubiera quitado también la capa de mierda.»
Pero al leer toda la conversación, me impresioné, después de haber leído Festín de Cuervos, la comparación Cersei-AerysII me llamó la atención a releer este fragmento.
En su momento no me pareció relevante, pero ahora... es sospechoso, cada vez más interesante esta cuestión, y Jaime, the kingslayer tienen varios numeritos para ser the queenslayer. No me da pena por Cersei, pero pobre Jaime... tratando de ser Jaime goldenhand, the Just. XD ...ojalá que no sea él el valonquar (pero será). Preferiría que sea Tyrion, el querubín del amor, ya "flechó" a Tywin, un Lannister más no le daría más problemas. Lo que me recordó a "Es posible que me esté malacostumbrando a personajes malvados, pero..." XD como dijo alguien en el topic: FESTÍN hasta página 515 Capítulo 28: CERSEI. Capítulo 29: EL SAQUEADOR el topic no tiene que ver con esto pero estaba leyendo las opiniones y la frase me quedó. Aclaro: no digo que Tyrion sea malo, no, no, no... solo que bueno, él le tiene tantas ganas a Cersei, que no sería para tanto. Al fin son personajes, no perosnas.

Otro punto interesante del fragmento es que no recordaba que Aerys II le estaba diciendo a Jaime que vaya a traerle la cabeza de Tywin. Además de loco era estúpido, igual que Cersei. Y otro es el intento de Tywin de casar a Jaime con Lysa Tully: no me acordaba de ese detalle chismoso!!!

Once he found the Blackfish, he would be free to return to King’s Landing, where he belonged. My place is with my king. With my son. Would Tommen want to know that? The truth could cost the boy his throne. Would you sooner have a father or a chair, lad? Jaime wished he knew the answer. He does like stamping papers with his seal. The boy might not even believe him, to be sure. Cersei would say it was a lie. My sweet sister, the deceiver. He would need to find some way to winkle Tommen from her clutches before the boy became another Joffrey. And whilst at that, he should find the lad a new small council too. If Cersei can be put aside, Ser Kevan may agree to serve as Tommen’s Hand. And if not, well, the Seven Kingdoms did not lack for able men. Forley Prester would make a good choice, or Roland Crakehall. If someone other than a westerman was needed to appease the Tyrells, there was always Mathis Rowan... or even Petyr Baelish. Littlefinger was as amiable as he was clever, but too lowborn to threaten any of the great lords, with no swords of his own. The perfect Hand.
